Creating beautiful, affordable and sustainable landscapes to promote community, provide environmental education, and overall enrich the lives of our clients.
Welcome to K² Landscapes
K² Landscapes is a landscape design-build firm specializing in native, sustainable designs that help to create a story through landscape.
Mission
K² Landscapes is committed to creating beautiful, affordable and sustainable landscapes to promote community, provide environmental education, and overall enrich the lives of our clients.
Principles
Natural Environment: Our designs enhance the natural environment by restoring damaged systems, by using native plant materials, and by low impact construction solutions.
Community: Our designs bring together both neighborhood aesthetic and culture while creating opportunities in the landscapes that allow people to come together.
Education: Our designs provide opportunities for our clients to learn about natural systems, native plantings and their environmental footprint. We will also educate ourselves with each project we take on, learning how to improve our methods of construction and the most efficient plant material for the site we are designing.
Meet Kristopher Kimkleinschmidt
Owner, RLA, LEED AP, Certified Permaculture Designer
Kristopher grew up in several places during his childhood. He lived in Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, Connecticut, Wisconsin, and Florida. He spent his childhood traveling with his family across the United States visiting national parks and lighthouses. This is where he discovered a passion for nature. Kristopher went to Kansas State University and received his Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a secondary degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. At Kansas State, he focused his studies on natural systems, landscape design, and stormwater management. Kristopher was also a part of the Kansas State University Marching Band where he played trumpet.
He began his career working at nurseries in Florida and Kansas serving as a landscape and irrigation designer, on-site installer and nurseryman. Kristopher is an accredited LEED professional, certified permaculture designer and licensed Landscape Architect. He continues to improve his knowledge of plants and is very interested in interweaving landscape ecology/permaculture principles into every design.
Now Kristopher is ready to start the next chapter in his life with his wife, Paula. The two of them have a furry family of two: Klondike and Picasso who enjoy helping Kristopher with the landscaping.
Meet Ben Ingle
Professional Landscaper
Ben has spent most of his life living in northern Nevada. He and his wife recently moved to the KC Metro to be closer to family. Since childhood, he has loved experiencing and exploring nature. He is a strong proponent of native environments, and an even stronger proponent of wildernesses. Ben loves learning, especially about plants and other aspects of nature. He feels most at home in the middle of a forest.
Ben double majored in college, earning a Bachelor’s degree in both Forest Ecology and Management and Environment Science with an emphasis in ecological restoration and conservation, along with minoring in Rangeland Ecology and Management. He also has experience with cattle ranching, residential construction, and barbeque consumption.
Meet Julia Sevin
Professional Landscaper
Julia grew up in a small arts community in Northern California amid tall redwoods. As an adult she moved to New Orleans and established a long career in graphic design, illustration, and publishing among long lived live oaks. It was during the initial COVID quarantine that she realized how little a digital career could do to keep her sane, compared to the powerful work done by the tiny green things right outside her front door. Her obsession began with plant identification walks and quickly progressed into collecting seeds and cuttings for propagation. After a fateful friendship formed with a mulberry tree, nothing ever could be the same again: a pandemic hobby had turned into a major career revelation. Trees, and all their supportive systems, are Julia’s one true calling.
With the Ksquared Landscapes team, Julia is excited to create an optimal environment for each tree to flourish and each landscape to be enjoyed by humans. She brings her design background to craft precise and eye-pleasing work, and brings her passion for botany to provide knowledgeable and tender care to every individual plant. She especially enjoys design challenges that draw on permaculture principles and support native ecology.
Julia’s ultimate goal is to own a native tree nursery. Her first home project in this pursuit is raising organic Chinese Chestnut trees from seeds collected at Chestnut Charlie’s in Lawrence, Kansas, which means she is currently locking into a forever war with the local squirrels (thugs).
Julia is a member of the Kansas City Community Gardens, the Missouri Forestkeepers Network, and the Forest and Woodland Association of Missouri. She has completed the Heartland Tree Alliance’s Tree Keepers training.
